Progress/Slab

Progress

I went by the house yesterday. A lot has happened this week. The house has been primed, the cabinets are in, tile has been installed on the bathroom walls, railings and they were putting in the baseboards during my visit. Here are a few pictures:

Slab
I went to pick out my slab yesterday. They had already pulled one for me to view...it was a ...NO! Then they pulled another slab with less vein but it was still a...NO! Finally, the third slab was a winner. See pics below:
Their original pick (see that large vein flowing through it)

The slab I chose, you don't see any veins.
She called it the light version of the St. Cecilia

My choice

    1. In our neck of the woods, they don't allow it! However, they will let you come to the warehouse to view the slab for $150 but you can't pick it out! Who wants to waste their money on a viewing? The manager was willing to email me pictures of the slab for that week and they were all in the same family and I was blessed and highly favored to get the color I wanted with the middle tone St Cecilia! The light was too light and the mustard was too dark even though all three choices would have fit nicely with both my cabinet and island choices.

    2. Our SR didn't even mention it was just to view it, not pick it out! When I asked, he already had an answer right away and the approximate cost, so it must be a common enough question.

    3. Picking your own slab here was not an option. I've done this with my previous slab however and I'm happy to say that they are both beautiful ( the one I picked and the one Ryan picked). It's all a matter of preference

  3. Beautiful! Our closing dates are close, so it looks like I have a lot to look forward to over the next week or so. It's nice to see the Cherry Bordeaux cabinets in your home, they were our choice as well but I don't see them on many of these blogs.

  4. It's hard to believe you were just breaking ground little over a month ago. What a whirlwind! Congratulations, your home is beautiful, love your selections. We should be breaking ground on our Highgrove around April 15th for a July 24-25th completion.

    1. Thanks! It has been a whirlwind. Folks are not lying when they say it moves fast after they start on the house. I look forward to watching your progress.

  5. The house is coming along nicely! I wish we had the option to pick the slab. Our SR said they charge a fee to do so, so we decided against it.

    1. He didn't mention anything about a fee. Maybe it varies by region. Why would they charge a fee to pick something that goes in YOUR house? That is Crazy!

    2. Again, in our region they won't because the huge numbers of houses being built are overwhelming and they can't handle the multitude of customers coming to the warehouse not just from RH but other home builders too. They are not set up to handle this capacity nor is a service they provide because most customers come from the entire DMV area.

    3. Nadase- I can understand that! It does take some work for them to show you the slabs. They are EXTREMELY heavy and requires someone driving a machine and another person to help pull it out. Not an easy task. If EVERYONE asked then you could spend your entire day moving granite in and out.

  6. Great choice! Jealous you picked your own slab!

    1. Thanks! I wouldn't have even known about the option to pick my own slab if it wasn't for these blogs!

  7. Nice progress! Those Tahoe Cherry Bordeaux cabinets are really beautiful and you picked a perfect slab of granite.

I'm also jealous you got to pick your own. Tried to get to pick mine and got nowhere with my request :(

    1. I don't understand what is the big deal about picking your own slab. When I asked my PM, he stated that he had never had that request before. He would call the granite company and check. They said yes, set the appointment up and voila...I was able to pick the perfect slab for my almost perfect kitchen.

    2. Our SR and PM did not know this either. I called after getting the lead from another blogger. At the end of the day, it makes no sense to charge to view the slab if you can't pick it. Again, I am so grateful the manager sent me pictures because I wanted to see if I needed to change my backsplash.

I have to admit, I love my granite slab! I admire it everyday. Once I paint and finish the interior design the backsplash will continue to remain a hit. lol

    5. Oh, BTW. You asked on my post about the settlement fees how to go about researching. If you haven't seen it yet, I just saw that Autumn at buildingourlancaster just did a GREAT post about it. She's a Realtor and had some good info. Basically, you call title companies in your area and have them give you an estimate of their settlement charges. You can then compare to what your fees are on NVR's good faith estimate. I don't know if you could then take the comparables to NVR to try and get them to lower their fees, but it couldn't hurt.

  10. Hey there. I was curious about the ceramic surround in the owners bathroom. With our home, the ceramic surround came as an incentive for our house and when we went to Advanced Flooring, we picked out our flooring as well as our tiles for the owners bathroom. We ended up picking a 6x6 white wall tile for the owners bathroom. I asked my SR about it because I thought that wall tile and ceramic are two different things and he said that the wall tile is the ceramic and if we wanted to upgrade the ceramic then we can still do it. But I was just wondering, is the ceramic surround suppose to be just 6x6 white (or almond which is the other color) wall tiles?? According to my SR, it's ceramic but I'm not sure...Anyways, please help!! I would like to just confirm to make sure I'm not being lied to from my SR. Thanks!!

    1. Yes, in the owners bath if you don't upgrade then your only choice is white or almond tile (6x6). The larger tile with the border is an upgrade.

    2. Thank you for clearing that up for me!! Did you get the upgraded owner's bathroom type E with the tub and shower?

  11. Me gusta! Also I feel silly because I bought all these decorations for above the cabinets in the kitchen and now after looking at your pictures I may have to return them. Not as much space as I had hoped.
