Insulation DONE

Today has been a very busy day (I'm SO TIRED). I was out at the house around 2 and we didn't finish installing until close to 5. For those of you who insulated during the evening...KUDOS! I don't know how you did it. Here are some pics:

We started with the bonus/master bedroom first since that was 1st priority

Plumbing Next:

Bedroom next to furnace

Leftover we had to use so we used it on the room near the stair well

Regular Insulation added to the Garage in the sections not insulated by Ryan. There are a few spot still not insulated but we were tired and going to buy more was not an option. It's good ENOUGH!

Hind sight is 20/20. I wish I would have purchased more 24 in Roxul and I would have insulated the walls for the 1st Floor bedroom and the other wall in the Bonus (next to the extra bedroom). Oh well, we don't have guest too often, therefore, I think both rooms will be fine!!

  1. Nice! Was this done with your pm's knowledge/blessing? We asked about this at our pre-con and were told "the garage holds the heat well" , it wasnt necessary, if we "wanted to heat the garage in the future a gas heater would put out enough heat" and "since the garage only has one coat of mud it would be easy to have someone come in and do blown-in insulation in the future." Needless to say we weren't thrilled with these responses.

    1. And you shouldnt be! Thats crazy! Blow in insulation is wayyy too expensive even if you do it yourself.
The pm cant "advise" you to do it, just make sure he knows that you are going to do it and not take it out. There are more than enough blogs out here of people doing it...including mine. Ryan knows what is going on. From what I have read, most people are going back to do the garage also so so you might as well do it up front. Good luck!

  3. Wow, I guess I never realized there was not insulation between the rooms. No I get why folks are doing the extra step. RH Bloggers you rock!

  4. Can I ask if you insulated for noise or heating/cooling? I have heard people asking to do this but was not sure the reasons. Thanks. We just signed a contract for a verona in northern va. Thanks

    1. I insulated the garage for heating/cooling purposes. The interior walls were insulated for sound which is why I used a sound proof insulation (Roxul).

  5. Pinkrage, how much would you buy total if you were doing it over again? I'm building a Verona too and am trying to figure out how much Roxul and regular insulation I'll need. Also, how long did it take you to do all of it? Thanks again, really enjoying your blog!

If anyone cares to stop by and check out my blog, it's at verona1005.blogspot.com I'm blogging from a guy's perspective, so it might be a little different than some of you are used to...but you're welcome to give it a look. Thanks!

  6. Hi Dave,

I would use the Roxul upstairs and regular insulation downstairs. It has really helped with the bonus room noise.

It probably only took us 1 1/2 maybe 2.
